Beauty product manufacturer levels growth obstacles with Inspirage

Periods of rapid expansion are great for business prospects, but they can also shine a light on underlying issues that have gone unaddressed. Scaling up internal processes, supply chains and legacy systems to meet increasing customer demands can be extremely challenging if your technological foundation isn’t designed with quick growth in mind. Our client, a leading global manufacturer of luxury beauty products, ran into this very problem in recent years. Business was booming, and the company’s dependence on spreadsheets and manual processes was proving to be a major hindrance. The leadership team knew a drastic change was necessary to reshape the organization’s demand and supply planning processes to keep up with its growing customer base.

For years, the company’s approach to demand and supply planning involved tracking changes in Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, which presented a number of issues. For one, that process required a lot of time-consuming manual work, preventing employees from tackling more strategic and value-driven jobs. Of even greater concern, though, was the fact that staff members using spreadsheets for planning operations were essentially working in isolation. It was very difficult for stakeholders across the organization and supply chain to gain clear visibility into planning processes or share information in a timely manner. Supply planning teams often dealt with long gaps between the time demand numbers were added to spreadsheets and when those reports would land on their desks. As such, forecasting demand figures was a difficult task to manage and ensure a high degree of accuracy.
